Coral Smoking Jacket & Wide Leg Pants

The Coral set is built on a fabric that is unlike anything else in our collection — unlike anything else, actually, in most of what is available in Australian fashion. The corded velvet is hand-loomed with yarn-dyed coral squares over a white cotton background, creating an intricate checkerboard pattern that is visible in the weave, felt under your fingers, and visible from across a room. The colour of the velvet squares — a warm coral that softens to peach where the pile catches the light — plays against the clean white of the cotton ground in a way that is simultaneously graphic and utterly warm.

The jacket construction honours the fabric. French seams throughout. Bell sleeves that carry the checkerboard pattern into movement. A shawl collar whose back has been carefully chevroned — an upholstery-inspired detail that creates a V-shaped pattern at the back of the collar where the velvet cords meet at an angle. Piped cuffs. A tie waist.

The chevroned back collar is an upholstery-derived technique where the corded velvet is cut and joined at an angle at the centre back of the collar, creating a V-shaped chevron pattern where the cords meet. It is a detail that requires precise cutting and joining, and which rewards being looked at closely.

How to Wear It

As a complete suit: Jacket and pants together is the full statement — the checkerboard pattern in warm coral moves beautifully as a complete silhouette. Nothing else needed beyond shoes. Mules, slides, or low heels all work equally well.

The jacket over black or navy: Coral velvet over dark trousers or a long dark skirt has the same logic as wearing a statement coat. The jacket does the work. The dark base grounds the warmth of the velvet perfectly.

The pants with a simple tee: Coral velvet wide leg pants with a fitted white or cream tee is a look that is far more sophisticated than it sounds. The velvet's texture makes the simplest top look considered. Add slides or trainers.
