"The red earth of Africa is not one colour. It is burnt sienna and raw ochre and the deep fired clay of a kiln. It is the colour of the ground at dusk, of handmade vessels, of a landscape that has been home to human beings for longer than anywhere else on earth. This cushion holds all of that."
The tribal linear pattern — bold horizontal bands punctuated by freehand geometric marks — is the same structure that gives the Black colourway its graphic confidence. But in Red Earth, the same pattern becomes something altogether warmer and more ancient. Deep terracotta and raw sienna painted onto the natural cream of 310 GSM Kadoma cotton: these are the colours of pottery and pigment and the earth itself. The pattern becomes less graphic statement and more whispered reference to a tradition that stretches back far further than any contemporary design movement.
In a room that already loves timber, rattan, raw plaster, dried botanicals, and natural linen, the Red Earth cushion will feel as though it has always been there. As though the room was arranged around it.
